2026 grad FT recruiting

Any leads in FT ER recruiting for 2026? Seems like BBs are filled; saw JPM FT app and Citi (which closed pretty quickly). Am open to ER role outside of BB asw, looking for any color.

For context, am currently an SA at a BB (not Americas) with a return offer but strongly want to work in NYC. Internal transfer doesn't seem to be an option atm.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, FT recruiting for roles like Equity Research (ER) in 2026 is likely to be highly competitive, especially at BBs. Historically, BBs tend to fill most of their FT roles through return offers to their summer analysts, leaving very limited spots for external candidates. JPM and Citi's FT applications being open (and closing quickly) aligns with this trend.

Here are some actionable tips for your situation:

  1. Target Niche Firms and Boutiques: If BBs are mostly filled, consider focusing on smaller firms, niche boutiques, or MMs that may still have openings. These firms often recruit later in the cycle and may have opportunities in NYC.

  2. Leverage Networking: Since internal transfer isn't an option, networking becomes critical. Reach out to alumni, current employees, or recruiters at NYC-based firms. Building relationships can help you uncover hidden opportunities or get referrals.

  3. Monitor Openings: Keep a close eye on job boards, LinkedIn, and WSO threads for updates on ER roles. Smaller firms and boutiques may post openings sporadically.

  4. Highlight Your SA Experience: Your current SA experience at a BB is a strong asset. Emphasize your skills, achievements, and why you're passionate about ER in NYC during interviews or networking conversations.

  5. Be Open to Off-Cycle Roles: If immediate FT roles are scarce, consider off-cycle opportunities. These can serve as a stepping stone to your desired role in NYC.

While BBs may be challenging to break into for FT roles, focusing on smaller firms and leveraging your network can increase your chances of landing an ER position in NYC. Keep hustling!
