Advice with emailing MD

I've been emailing back and fourth with a MD in FIG at a prospective firm, we also have previously gotten coffee and spoke as well. He has been sending me articles on the current pension issues and cities going bankrupt. I am very unfamiliar with what we have been discussing and have been trying to do my own research but still feel like I am coming up short, and also seeing how it correlates with FIG.

I was wondering on the best way to get insight into FIG, how it relates to pensions, etc., and what sources anyone would recommend, as well as tips with emailing back and fourth and what not?
