Being a more effective ER analyst

Per title - what are some good resources that I can access to improve my ER skills? I joined a n (arguably) long only single family office firm right after a MSC degree.

No training whatsoever, the CIO always tells us to just use our PWM banks’ model and look at their research reports, so it’s a lot of self learning with no guidance (CIO’s background is in derivatives sales). CIO also specifically encourages to use sell side models because we are ‘not smarter than them’

My background is in genetics and bioinformatics, so while it makes sense for me to jump straight to scientific literature and start my understanding from there, my CIO/senior tells me otherwise. It’s not really clicking for me, and it’s getting very frustrating when I feel like I need a more reasonable amount of time vs say 24-48 hours given to understand a whole new sector.
