Berenberg ER

Anyone have any thoughts/color on Berenberg? Recently got a job offer at the firm. Don’t know if I want to take it. It’s in a sector I want to eventually cover on the Buyside, but don’t know if exits to the Buyside are available from here.

Also a young analyst.

Hey Associate 1 in ER, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

You're welcome.

Limited experience seeing them in the market. In my former space they had a pretty young analyst covering a bunch of partly related companies. The guy wasn’t that impressive.

Coming from any legit sell side shop should give you decent exit opportunity to buy side. I’m guessing Berenberg qualifies as legit, but hard to be sure. If it’s in the sector you want to cover, that might be an added plus.

Berenberg likes to keep people for a while, I interviewed with them a couple of months ago (probably the same team you got the offer for lol since you mentioned the young analyst). Many young analysts, tend to give associates coverage after a year and a half. Not so sure about buy-side exits, I've seen people from Berenberg lateral to BBs and top middle-market banks.

However analysts seem to come and go, not many have established themselves over time.

Just doing a quick LinkedIn search I don't see too many people going to the buyside, mostly ER at other banks. They're also quick to fire and didn't give out any bonuses, the whole ER division was gutted last year.
