Better college to end up in ER?
So I've rounded down my undergrad choices to 2 schools. Both of which are non-targets. My goal is to end up in ER out of college. I am listing the pros and cons for both. Please tell me which you think is a better choice and why.
Rutgers University- Economics
Pros:
Cheaper
Better name
Cons:
Seems more competitive then Pace
Not really strong in Econ/Finance
Pace University NYC- Finance and Quantitative Business Analysis
Pros:
Proximity to Wall Street
Strong Internship Program
Seems like an easier curriculum
Prefer these majors
Cons:
Much more expensive
No Prestige
I wouldn't pay a premium for Pace. I have literally never seen a Pace grad in a front office role, but I have seen some Rutgers. And you are still only 1-2 hrs outside NYC.
My advice would be to go to Rutgers, kick ass, then transfer. Neither university is going to really help you. At least Rutgers will not set you back financially.
Slight lean towards pace, it's good to be in the city. Internship options are there, you're in the finance program as opposed to just econ at Rutgers, and you can do a lot of legwork yourself with the easier curriculum. Much of what you learn inside the classroom at Uni is a joke and so being able to learn things on your own is key. Also there will likely be lots of grade inflation at Pace as opposed to Rutgers (or any state school for that matter), and the Rutgers kids who get into IB are in LIBOR, so if you're not particularly interested in having to jump through all of the hoops with tougher competition, and would rather spend that time working on getting into IB by yourself utilizing the city, then Pace makes sense. This is all assuming that finances aren't an issue, if they become an issue, well that's what state schools are for.
Edit: Also regarding the above post, there most certainly are a decent chunk of alum from pace like every other NYC school, just google "investment banking pace university linkeidn" and you'll see tons of results. Sure, OCR is more focused on back office positions, but there are still a number of alum in front office positions at bulge brackets. OP, do your own research, and pick whichever you like better. They're both non targets, but attending a non target in NYC will be so much better than attending one not in NYC because of the internship/networking factor. Transfer/apply to Baruch after a semester, it's cheaper than Rutgers if that's an issue.
