Biotech

I’m an older physician very interested in biotech ER.  A lead analyst at Cowen highly recommended CFA Level I.  Wondering your thoughts on whether this would give leverage landing an ER role.  Background: currently in the middle of an EMBA, limited finance experience.  I’d really appreciate opinions as to CFA or other coursework (eg financial modeling) would be of benefit.

Thank you.

I’ll give a more thorough reply later, but Lvl 1 isn’t a bad idea. If you’re not familiar, people spend 100s of hours studying for these tests.

Networking with associates who also come from an MD background would help too. Several analysts at my bank had prior physician experience, most of the associates though came right out of grad school.

Go all the way

Financial modeling isn’t too complicated (you’ll find out.)

Networking is probably better given your expertise. I could be wrong but with some basic finance knowledge you’ should be fine as you will learn everything on the job (with repetition.)

Take my opinion with a grain, but experience trumps education. You are informally educated through experience.
