Breaking into equity research

I’m in high school right now and im expected to know exactly what I want to do in my life. ER is something that looks appealing to me. I know I’m not going to be able to get into a top school, do I still have a chance of getting in ER? Also anyone in ER right now? How do you like it? Thanks!

Yeah, ER recruiting is a little less focused on target background. Although this may be the case, a majority of the ER class will usually be target but you are more than capable of breaking in from a non target background if you work hard and get the right experience

Few things that I have gathered from ER recruiting/breaking in:

  1. Network hard (most obvious)
  2. Some sort of sophomore internship that relates to research. Mine was at a large AM firm where I did research, and that helped a ton.
  3. Learn to model and build one out, along with a write up for a few companies. This shows that you can model, and building a model allows you to really understand the business that you will eventually pitch in an interview when asked “pitch me a stock” There’s plenty more that I missed/too lazy to add, but I have some good resources from some mentors who have been helpful, feel free to PM for those.

Hey so I totally forgot to check this. Yes id love the resources you were talking about. Only problem is I have no clue how to pm on this app :)
