Close enough to ER to benefit?

Summary Description: The Market Intelligence (MI) Intern plays a critical role in the development of the company's market analysis and strategy. The MI Intern will support the development of market and competitive intelligence around the company's current and emerging solutions and markets by helping to conduct primary and secondary research, analyzing data, and assisting in model development. Each MI Intern is aligned to a different industry, and working with other members of the Market Intelligence team, develops strategic analysis of the industry, solutions, and competitors that is used in the company's annual planning process.

The position offers the MI Intern the opportunity to work directly with sales, industry marketing, product management, and product development as they collect, analyze, and synthesize data about the company's industries and environment to create actionable insights for the business. Located in our New York, NY office, the MI Intern program also provides the opportunity for the MI intern team to meet with senior leadership to learn not only about the company's operations but also benefit from their experiences.

Key Areas of Responsibility: • Assists in gathering economic data and analyzing trends within key global markets • Conducts and/or synthesizes primary and secondary research on existing and emerging markets • Leverages and contributes to the development of models for analyzing markets including market size, installed base, and growth • Aids in the development and population of market intelligence systems and tools

I've had an internship similar to this, would you see this as a decent stepping stone to ER in the future (say after an msf) or would it be setting me up for more of a "business analyst" sort of role? I knew someone in the company before I found out about the opening, and feel like I could get it if I go for it. Obviously the value depends on my opportunity cost, but more interested in the intrinsic value of this possibility at the moment.

Thanks all
