Did I make big mistake?
Hi. I had second round interview with one of the ER division.
After 2.5 weeks of interview, I emailed HR manager who is in charge of my application about my status.
HR manager replied "Please wait at least 2 more weeks since other candidates are interviewing"
Then I replied that Thank you for reply and will follow in next 2~3 weeks"
HR manager then reply "I will let you know don't follow up!". And he send me rejection letter on next day.
Did I make big mistake?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like your follow-up approach may not have been a "big mistake," but there are a few nuances to consider:
Timing of Follow-Up: Following up 2.5 weeks after the interview is generally reasonable. However, if the HR manager explicitly mentioned that other candidates were still interviewing and asked you to wait, it might have been better to hold off on further communication until the suggested timeline had passed.
Tone and Frequency: While your initial follow-up was polite, the HR manager's response ("I will let you know, don't follow up!") suggests they may have perceived your follow-up as unnecessary or overly persistent. This could have contributed to their decision, especially if they were already leaning toward other candidates.
HR's Role: As highlighted in WSO threads, HR is often not the best point of contact for follow-ups. Many users recommend reaching out to the hiring manager or team lead instead, as they are more directly involved in the decision-making process.
Rejection Letter Timing: The rejection letter arriving the next day might not necessarily be tied to your follow-up. It's possible the decision was already made, and your email simply prompted them to formalize it.
Key Takeaways:
Don't dwell too much on this—use it as a learning experience and keep pushing forward!
