ER 27 Timeline

Wanted to see how recruiting for ER 2027 is going for you guys and ask how many banks are yet to post applications.

My one critique for ER is the fact that the recruiting timeline is completely nonsensical. With IB, it's pretty structured and happens from november-february (usually). However, ER is extremely frusturating in the fact that the timeline is stretched out for over a year. Some well respected firms that had their IB recruiting in early 2026 might not post their ER applications until multiple months later. It has made this process so much more grueling, as not getting selected for a firm you have been interviewing at results in having to do 2-3 more months of just waiting for another application to drop. I'd like to just get this process over with. Anyone have similar thoughts?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, your frustration with the stretched-out timeline for Equity Research (ER) recruiting is a common sentiment among candidates. Unlike Investment Banking (IB), which tends to follow a more structured and predictable timeline (often concentrated between November and February), ER recruiting can indeed feel disjointed and prolonged.

For ER 2027, there isn't specific information in the dataset about which banks have posted applications or their exact timelines. However, historically, ER recruiting has been known for its variability, with some firms posting applications months after their IB counterparts. This inconsistency can make the process feel more grueling, as you mentioned, especially when rejections lead to extended waiting periods for new opportunities.

If you're navigating this process, consider these tips: 1. Stay proactive with networking: Building relationships with professionals in ER can sometimes give you early insights into when applications might open. 2. Diversify your applications: Apply broadly to mitigate the impact of delays or rejections from specific firms. 3. Leverage WSO forums: Threads like this often become hubs for sharing updates on application openings and timelines.

If you're looking for specific updates on ER 2027 recruiting timelines, keeping an eye on WSO threads or reaching out to peers in the industry might provide more clarity.

Curious abt this too. It looks like for a lot of the BB and UMM they all drop on the same day as IB roles like early Jan. Some banks have a position open that says “2027 Markets” SA and that includes ER as well. Some banks specifically say ER. It’s super unstructured the best thing is just to apply to any role you see early for ER imo.
