ER Exit Opps

Have read a few discussions on here already about possible exit opportunities from equity research, such as moving to a hedge fund... however I wanted to get people's read on whether or not it would be good to stay in ER as an analyst, or would it be better for me to move elsewhere. Say down the road I did want to be at a HF, does me being an ER analyst give any advantages or is it just a waste of time in the end and would be better to make an industry change now after 3-4 years of being an ER associate.

Was wondering if anyone has been in this predicament before, any opinions or advice is appreciated.
