I have an interview coming up for a "quantitative research analyst" role at Fidelity. What is the salary/bonus like for a job like this? Also, what is the typical career path like? Many of my friends tell me that they would take this over any IBD job because people in IBD/PE want to exit to a buy-side fund like Fidelity. Is this true? Would any of you take this job over a investment banking position at Wells Fargo? I would really appreciate any insight into this.

I believe there was a recent post about this role; you may want to look for it. Your friends are half-right. Many people want to go to the buyside after their time in banking, but PE is a type of buyside investing. Starting on the buyside is a good opportunity but can lock you into a specific type of investing (one of the guys I work for started out in a similar position at a big asset manager, and now 10+ years later he still works with the same asset class/strategy). I wouldn't take it over "any" IBD job, but over WFC? Probably, unless you are set on working in PE.

i know the offer for their sector specialist in equity research (fundamental) is 55+25. you might be looking at something very similar. good luck.
