Financial Reporting to ER

Currently working for a massive private corporation in a financial reporting role. I essentially track and analyze P&L related numbers so pretty much most of my work is working with financial statements and related to analyzing overall financials vs. goals/objectives, competitors.

My question is whether anybody currently in ER has either made this jump or knows someone who has? Is this a somewhat common path as I feel a lot of the research and analysis work I am doing is similar to what an ER role would require.
