This came up rather suddenly, but I have a first round over the phone with Raymond James tomorrow out of their Houston office for an associate position. They haven't said which sector it will be for.
Does anyone have any insight into the process, what to expect, etc.? Any advice would be most appreciated.
I have a first round phone interview with them a for their Calgary office later this week, summer associate position, O&G. I'm guessing yours is also O&G, considering it's Houston; but I'd be interested to know what questions they're likely to ask as well .
Depends who you will be talking with - Houston or St. Petersburg? If Houston it'll be more sector focused if not more high level. Absolutely know a stock well. The rest of it essentially revolves around knowing the 3 statements.
Just got done. Pretty standard stuff. Asked for a walkthrough of financial statements (nothing too crazy here), asked about my thoughts on the economy, and asked if I was following any stocks. I gave a long idea and also a short idea that I was following.
Did they mention a particular sector? Like did they steer you in anyway with the questions?
No, it was pretty general in nature. I'm assuming if/when there is a second round that it would focus more on energy since it is the Houston office, but this was pretty general.

There were some threads on here earlier that I found talking about this. That was how I found Raymond James's Houston office, and also some opportunities in Dallas.

Yeah and I think that might have dinged me. Know the proper valuation techniques for the company you are pitching. If E&P is known for NPV, go with NPV.

First round is definitely more behavioral. 2nd round a little more tougher depending on sector. For whatever sector your looking at have a solid stock pitch with reasonable valuation and general knowledge in the sector. Questions vary depending on who interviews you which also reflects what sector their in but I lucked out with my first interview I think. Very conversational and way more behavioral unstructured questions.
