fwefwefwefwfwefeweassociate

I am recently iwefwefwefwefwefwefwefwef-bulge-bracket-BB">bulge bracket bank for an oil&gas equity research associate position in Houston. I think I am getting close to an offer. The title for the position is research associate, busdfwfww

Not sure if you're still wondering but you'd probably start at 100 base and year end bonus of 30-40. Rumors are circulating about some firms bumping up 1st year associate base salaries to 125 in conjunction with bumping up the IBD associates but that remains to be seen.

No one here even works in industry clearly...

In equity research, associate is entry level.... ER associate =/= IB associate

Usually ER goes, associate --> analyst. Amazing how people can get offers without knowing something so basic.

Expect standard 70-85k base plus 30-50k bonus as a first year

Frank Sinatra - "Alcohol may be man's worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy."

I got a $10k signing bonus for an ER Associate position (back in 2006), so you should be able to get something in that neighborhood. I was also relocating for this job (to Houston, actually), so I'm not sure how much of that was "relocation allowance" vs. "signing bonus" or if there really is a difference.

My base with 2 years experience was $75k with $55k bonus in Houston. My understanding is the base caps around the $100-125k range for an Associate.

@yeahright. So I don't know where you work but internally at every BB bank I have been equity research still uses the same investment banking rankings internally as S&T and IBD . Analyst are undergrad, associates are MBA/grade/experiences industry or analyst 3-4 years exp. V.p. are the next rug up and usually are lead analyst on a few small stocks. Lead "analysts" the public facing title are either directors or MDs (though someone with coverage which usually includes VP are consider the analyst on the stock). "Analyst" and "associate" are externally facing names.
