GS GIR doesn't do/target II or Extel rankings so can't really comment on that. No idea about culture. Base is the same as IBD. Bonus is flat in first year. I've heard either 15k or 30k pre-bump (only one of these is correct) but no idea what this numbers are for this year post-bump.
I'd imagine hours are the same as most other ER outfits, which while largely dependent on your analyst will be 55-70 (higher in earnings season).

Not respected on buy side at all. It’s run for their banking business
Can you shed some light as to why it is not respected? Seems to be a fairly contentious subject here on WSO
people love to shit on GS GIR on WSO, but the fact is - exits are top tier for analysts and GS has some of the largest conferences & public visibility for its lead analysts
I'm sure the research content from e.g. Peel Hunt, Redburn, Exane are far superior & they have more knowledgeable lead analysts, but from a junior career perspective, GIR still a great place to be
also from a comp perspective - Exane is paying what, £50-60k total comp this year for new grads? whereas GS/JP/MS are on ~£110k incl. sign on... literally double
Completely disagree. On macro equity and commodities, GS GIR is probably ahead of anyone else. On single stock, really will depend coverage to coverage.
Also worth noting I would be very comfortable stating that GS GIR probably has more alumni on public equities buyside than any other firm.. Only MS is coming close..
Are MM pods the main destination for jr. analysts or do you also find large number of alumni at AM/LO shops?
Best ranked analysts: there are (virtually) no II ranked ones, but GS doesn't target that so irrelevant. TMT sees most client activity
Best team for culture: Consumer staples, luxury goods. Banks worst (longest hours)
Base salary and bonus: first years £70k + 50% (fixed for all GIR grads). Base 70 an1 -> 75 an2 -> 80 an3 -> 105 assoc (normally 2.5 years to assoc)
Average hours? above average for ER, but dependent on team. GS Macro teams work longer... 8am-10pm seems normal for them.
Great info - any info on the healthcare, chemicals, papers&packaging or biopharma teams?
dunno about chems/p&p
healthcare/biopharma need a related master's/PhD to join... but if you have that, I'd make that #1 choice
I would generally rank sector choices as 1) tech 2) healthcare 3) consumer staples/similar.... last ) oil & gas
With £105k total comp for GIR AN1 was that the same as IBD last year?
effectively, yes
but with this year IBD being 70k/75k + ~100% bonus, there's still a large gap if this is the new norm
Are these figures confirmed for GS? Seems high for ER to have 105k comp for A1
This is normal for MS/JPM/GS now after the bumps.
