Help with finding equity analysis data

Hello guys, I have to do an equity report assignment and among other things I need to calculate cost of capital, growth, equity premium etc.. but I'm really having a problem in finding the basic data that I need for the calculations. I also have access to capitaliq and I was wondering if you could give me any advice. For example, for the implied equity premium I need to find the dividend and stock buybacks for the s&p 500 but I can't find it anywhere... I'm desperate.

Hello,

If you're trying to calculate the WACC, my best advice is to look at Aswath Damodaran's website. There's a bunch of stuff (in the form of excel spreadsheets) on there which in my opinion is quite reliable, but take it with a pinch of salt. Here's the link: http://people.stern.nyu.edu/adamodar/New_Home_Page/spreadsh.htm#cf

That's the main list of spreadsheets with info for the kind of calculations you need to do. I would recommend cross-checking your findings with something like the Economic data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (https://www.stlouisfed.org/). I believe their data is quite reliable if you're trying to get something like risk-free rates for CAPM for example.

For things like marginal tax rates, search the company's 10-K, and if you still can't find it, you can use the effective tax rate as a proxy. For the D/(D+E) and E/(E+D), CapitalIQ will serve you well because they already give you good estimates of all interest-bearing debt.

Let me know if I can help with anything else
