How is CMU Tepper for me?

Hi y’all, so I just got accepted to CMU Tepper for their mba program. I got an 80% scholarship which I am super happy about. I have 2 years work experience at s&p as a credit analyst covering healthcare companies and two years of work experience at J&J in their FLDP program. Think I would want to use the MBA to cover healthcare companies as an equity analyst whether on the sell side of buyside. How doable is this from CMU Tepper?

I had to google what school CMU Tepper was.

Start networking now, you don't have the healthcare (read: science) background for biotech stuff.

The two parts to getting a job in research is 1. Networking 2. What you know.

Start reaching out now to professionals at firms you want to work at, Senior Analysts whose research you enjoy.

Nothings impossible you just have to work for it.

I’m just trying to understand how respected cmu tepper is, it seems like it’s more of a tech school, but I’m guessing that a resume won’t be thrown out because it’s from cmu right, like it’s “good enough ?

With your experience, CMU would give you looks for a sell-side research role. Unfortunately for buy-side, I'd wager >95% of people would throw away your resume with your experience / CMU name. It is an unfortunate truth, but it is just how it goes.

As said above though, nothing is impossible. Investing is supposed to be a meritocracy, so if you are given a shot and impress upon them, you should be rewarded.

Even if you do go to HSWCB, etc. you still have to hustle a tremendous amount for a buy-side role. I imagine you are talking about LO funds, which are some of the hardest roles to break into, even at the previously mentioned schools. For the amount of people interested in the space, there are only a few seats to full, therefore creates the insane barriers of entry.
