How to enter Equity Research after an MBA if you dont have relevant pre-MBA experience.

I recently completed my MBA in Singapore and want to move into equity research. I just finished my internship on the buyside and it did not convert. I don't have any pre-MBA experience in finance. I am an engineer with major in IT. Now I am looking out to break into this industry. Location is not a concern but I would have advantage in Asia. I recently interviewed for SAC hedge fund for the Asia office but got rejected and now I dont know if I would ever get such an opportunity. I am trying to network in Singapore with PM and associates but I am quickly running out of options.Do I even realistically have a chance to get a job in ER? What should I do now to get there if this is what I really want to do? Your views would help me get some perspective.
