IFRS 16 Lease Accounting Help for Financial Modelling

Hi WSO Community,

I am looking for someone who can provide me with any guidance on how to properly / accurately establish a roll forward for the new IFRS 16 Lease Accounting? (Right of use Asset / Lease liability). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated / if you have a model /example I could look at that would be even better.

Thanks in advance!

I generally assume a fixed lease contract life based on historical data.

Then you build a depreciation schedule for the asset and a amortization (as an annuity) schedule for the liability.

Make sure your ROU depreciation and lease repayments are then linked to your ROU asset capex forecast.

Alternatively you could just only forecast ROU assets and then just set lease liabilities equal to ROU assets as it does not impact valuations anyway.

Good luck.
