Independent research shops (SB, ISI) vs BB
Hey everyone -
How do the independent research shops stack up against the bulge brackets in terms of comp and exit opps? Are there any highly regarded ones other than Sanford Bernstein and ISI? Assume you are randomly assigned an analyst & sector - which would be the better choice for an associate? Thanks!
as far as exit opps, I'm sure you'd be fine with somewhere like Birinyi, Ned Davis, Value Line, Nomura, William Blair, BMO, etc. but I'm not in ER, so somebody like @"Flake" @"IamObama" and @"Batman81" should be able to correct/confirm what I'm saying.

Can anyone comment on the difference in hours, pay, bonus etc? And what the exit ops are from a decent Independent Research shop? Thx
Any takers? I have interviews with both and I'm just curious about what to expect. thanks for any input.
Things you get in BB that you don't in independent research.. money, prestige, exit opps, a feeling of self-worth.
Things you get in independent research that you don't get in BB.. time.
go with BB if you dont plan on spending your entire career in research - i think longer term, the model will go indepdent, but teh BB guys have more resources, respect, etc (outside of the major niche players like wolfe, etc)

What's the independent firm? If you don't want to give the exact name, can you give a few examples of its peers?
