Landing in Equity Research

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a Senior Investment Analyst at a real estate holding company in my country, focusing on financial analysis and project-based investment opportunities. I hold a bachelor's degree with second-class honors and a master's degree with distinction both from reputable UK universities. Right now, I'm studying for CFA Level II and planning to apply for an MBA at a T10 university next year. By the time I submit my applications, I will have over four years of work experience, including two years as a financial analyst in banking and two years in investment analysis. Assuming I pass CFA Level II and get into the MBA program, do you think I would be able to secure a job in equity research? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I see. However, I am currently 9 time zones away with only CFA L1 and no MBA prospect (yet). do you think starting this early is important or should I start it after securing my accreditations?

I would suggest starting your networking now

It's unclear to you whether you should network now or not network now?

And can it ever be?

Yes because I believe having some kind of a accreditation would differentiate my case from other aspiring candidates from developing countries and my only tool of networking atm is LinkedIn (idk how effective it is for networking compared to coffee chats etc.)

Seems like nerves to me, or you're looking for an excuse not to do something you dread but know that you should. Networking sucks, it's understandable! But if you network now you can also network later when you have CFA L2, and you will be more natural at it due to the practice reps, and you might find a job between now and then. Don't save it until later, just start!

And can it ever be?
