Lehman ER Interview

whats the best way to prep for an interview for a summer internship with Lehman ER? around 3000 people apply and there are only 7 spots so it will be very competitive... any tips/advice?

also, do you think mostly juniors will be interviewing or sophomores too? im a sophomore at a target and will be getting the interview through a connect

Summer internship interviews already?!?

7 Spots for a summer class?!?

Is this some sort of joke? Or maybe this is a sophomore ONLY program...

If this is legit, I can probably help you - shoot me a PM.

PLEASE DONT CHANGE EXCEL SHORTCUTS!!!

I can say for a fact that summer classes for research tend to be smaller, though I'm not sure if more competitive would be accurate given the lower popularity of the division right now.

For the most part, preparing for interviews for ER is going to be pretty similar to IB, except the interviews itself will probably focus more on investments than corporate finance, i.e. how well do you know the market, can you talk intelligently about stocks, how to do financial forecasts, etc. Research is a bit different in that they also expect a certain level of writing ability.

Sure, I agree with this.

I went straight to this. There is the possibility that this is just an informational interview, but from the sound of it, I am pretty sure it is an actual interview. Maybe the MD was impressed by me for some reason. On a side note though, I did receive an email from HR asking me for some more information a couple days ago. The HR had gotten my resume from someone else in an entirely different group.

If it's that many people, I really really doubt that it's just an "informational interview." MDs don't have time for that. As for where you are in the interview process, well, definitely past the first on-campus or phone round. It's not clear whether that's a superday or not. You're right that usually they do involve more people, but sometimes for summer internships it's a shorter process with fewer people since you're not seen as a "permanent" hire. This is probably something you'll find out at the interview on Monday. I don't see how it can last much beyond 1 additional interview after this, though.

The role of ECM varies by bank... in general it is less work and better hours than M&A groups and industry groups, as they usually just do the work on selected parts of a pitch/deal process. Sometimes PEs don't like to recruit as much from ECM groups because they want people who have done more M&A or debt deals.

Don't read anything above into your internship, though - it's a great opportunity and you can easily get FT offers at other places/groups if you do well there.
