I'm in a similar position. Got "promoted to Vice President" only to find out that at my current bank/business line VP is actually senior associate. I was SA before onboard. I also felt duped.
You’re over thinking this. Whether you’re an analyst associate or senior associate, it makes no difference to people outside of your firm. Any difference is the pay scale difference because no one can tell from the outside for the first two levels. Your promotion has more to do whether you can do your job well, get investor votes, and support from your senior analyst and management
