Question about hours
I know ER is not meant to require so many hours as iBanking, but is it unusual for someone to put in a lot more hours than they actually need to? Just curious.

its not that uncommon, i know a guy who worked 90-100 hours a week at goldman ER because the md wanted to make partner and was working everyone hard.

yea, it is unusual. I dont think there is a job out there in business where you can just leave when its slow, cause there is always stuff to do. If it is the day before thanksgiving or something, no, you wont work a 12-14 hour day. However you should take this time to build up a model or something to add value to your team/your bonus.
i think a lot of this will depend on your team - how many stocks they cover and how many associates there are. i work at a firm where all of the teams work 7:30-6 but my team is 6-10 because we have triple the coverage.
? you work from 6am-10pm? wtf?
yes. i work at a mid sized firm with a reasearch department that started up a few years ago.
i work 8 - 6 on average these days ....
