Research Analyst - Small independent alternative investment firm

Can anybody please give me some advice. I just recently started working at a small independent alternative investment firm that exclusively focuses on the niche market of alternative investment. My firm focuses towards the following sectors: REIT, Commodities, Hedge Funds and Mutual Funds. As an on-demand research analyst I will be conducting research on the hedge fund sector, where I will be writing weekly and monthly research reports with commentary to our clients. My goal in the future is to work as a hedge fund research analyst or Asset Management. I am inquiring whether this type of experience will add value in the upcoming future. Do most research analyst gather data, analyze, write and present to their prospective clients as I have very limited knowledge in this field.

Thanks for your consideration and hope to get some valuable insights.
