Seeking move to ER
Hi monkeys. First topic here so go easy on me. I am looking to make a move to ER from my current role at a family owned PWM shop. My current role is split between servicing existing clients and market research (mainly macro and nowhere near ER-like research for individual securities). I am looking to make the move b/c I want to develop my valuation, modeling, and stock picking skills (something lacking in my current position) to open up more doors. I plan on hitting the pavement networking, taking a BIWS modeling course & WSP course, and possible sitting for CFA level 1 in June. I currently have my Series 7 and will be taking the 63 soon - while this may not add any value in ER I believe it will show my interest in the financial markets. From my research it seems my best bet would be a SS ER firm for a few years, then either try to make the jump to the BS or go for a MBA.
What are your guys' thoughts on me making the move? Does it seem possible? I have been at my current role for over a year so I want to make a move before I get pigeon-holed. I graduated from a non-target with a high GPA. I have a number of Alumni I can reach out to in ER and a personal connection with a PM at a major BS firm that I could potentially leverage for contacts.Any thoughts or insights would be much appreciated. From a decent MBA program it's not hard to make the move to ER if you if you are focused from beginning to end ,and want to do the MBA now, and get in to a top school. Note that the two years you spend in the MBA means your registrations will expire.
I've seen people go from PWM to BS successfully from B-School but very difficult.
Making a move into ER without b-school is really hard but not impossible. B-school gives you a lot of options.
