Can someone please confirm how many attempts can one make at writing the series exam within the 120 days window?

You have one shot at it during your 120 day window. If you do in fact fail, you can re-open your window after 30 days. If you fail a second time, then you can't open your window for 180 days I believe.
Moral of the story - take it when you're good and ready. If you do fail the first time, don't fail it again.
