Should I contact the team directly? [Interview help needed!]

Hi all,

I'm in the process of interviewing for an associate role in a sell side boutique. Currently I've passed stock pitch stage and been told the next stage will be a case study/lunch. It's been over 3 weeks and recruiter said he has not heard back re either dates or more info. I really wanted this role and am getting a bit anxious. So I was hoping that I can get your advice on:

a) whether I should contact the team directly and ask for an update (I have the contact of the analyst)?

b) what to expect in a case study? writing sample? modelling test? another pitch?

Thanks all in advance.

a) I would email the associate on team, Analyst gets so many emails that it might slip. Asking for an update after 3 weeks is totally fair imo

b) case study is exactly what the name suggests: I remember an analyst asking me "what do you think is more valuable, AWS or the retail business, walk me through the value chain of the retail business and where do you think is the biggest moat?" stuff like that.

Thanks for the reply! Really in need of some guidance here. Just some follow up though

Re a) so it's ok to skip the recruiter to do that? Of course I wouldn't want to piss off him either

Re b) the coverage is one of the FIG industry - so if this is what I should expect, am I right in assuming the best preparation would just be to read more on the sector and keep up with news? Thanks.

a) never used a recruiter, but yeah, follow up with him first, if he is not responsive, can't blame you for bypassing him then

b) yes, whatever industry, brown points if you catch up on the sector and some big trends / news that are impacting the space. Shows that you care - it will be your job to know news and trends anyways, do your job before getting the job ;)
