Thoughts on Investor Relations jobs

Thoughts on how to pick a good job in investor relations of a public company if I value good boss, WLB over money? Larger cap names with earned long-term investor base vs. recent IPOs trying to "refresh the cap table"? Head of IR is ex-SS ER vs. Head of IR is ex-IBer (risk of being an a-hole / workaholic)? I am targeting mid-level: are the 2nd/3rd person on IR team typically just doing earnings prep, but not get to travel to sell-side confs or talk to big buy-side firms?

Tks

I suggest picking a job instead of picking a boss, mainly because the boss can always leave. Within IR, unless you want to do IR the entire career, look for finance positions with IR plus other responsibilities (like FP&A). With IR only roles, even if you eventually become head of IR, without other responsibilities you could be stuck doing that indefinitely. Plus definitely larger companies as that would be better for your corporate resume.
