When to reach out for FT recruiting

Hi all, when should I start to reach out for FT ER recruiting?

For context, I am a Spring 26 graduate. I have a couple contacts, but would like to network with more people/across different firms.

Also, in terms of applying for research associate roles… Are those postings open to spring graduates or looking to fill immediately? Or does it depend?

For full-time Equity Research (ER) recruiting, here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Networking Timeline: Start networking as early as possible, ideally 6-12 months before your graduation. Building relationships takes time, and having strong connections can help you secure referrals or insights into upcoming roles.

  2. Application Timing: Research associate roles often have varying timelines. Some postings are open to fill immediate needs, while others are structured for upcoming graduates. Keep an eye on job boards and company websites starting in the fall before your graduation, as many firms begin their hiring processes then.

  3. Key Considerations:

    • Larger firms may have structured recruiting cycles, often aligning with on-campus recruiting or specific hiring windows (e.g., late summer to early fall).
    • Smaller firms or boutique shops may hire on an as-needed basis, so it's essential to monitor postings regularly and maintain active communication with your network.
  4. Action Plan:

    • Begin reaching out to your existing contacts now and expand your network by connecting with professionals at target firms.
    • Stay proactive in checking job postings and apply as soon as roles become available, especially if they align with your graduation timeline.

By starting early and staying consistent, you'll position yourself well for opportunities in ER.
