$250 Joseph Abboud suits

I bought 3 conservative suits yesterday at the Soiffer-Haskins Sample Sale (Til Thursday) for Joseph Abboud.

The suits are on Sale for $299 ea. or $250 if you buy 3 or more. (They retail for $795.00 each)

They are across from Penn Station on 33rd street (Right across from the US Post Office)...

Next week they have the Armani Sample Sale....

Joseph Abboud isn't nearly the same quality as it used to be. In all honesty, you probably got what you paid for.

An honest question: how much of buying suits for these high prices comes down to the greater fool theory? Maybe I'm just a plebeian fool but at the end of the day the mark-up is like 300% on a piece of fabric. Nordstrom sells Abboud (I think some for $700?). The difference seems so marginal when I look at Abboud vs. some of the other brands, but then again maybe I'm just ignorant.

NEVER spend $700 on a Joseph Abboud.

Men's Wearhouse sells them for 2-for-1 sometimes with an extra $100 off on top of that, so that gets you down to an average price of about $300-$350/suit. I think an American-made suit with higher quality fabric, better design, and a first world lapel is worth a $100 premium over a Made-in-China Stafford or Alfani suit. They just tend to last longer and have slightly lower carrying costs.

I'm not sure the new Abboud made in China is worth a premium, though. The fabric feels cheaper, you get an embarassing third world lapel, and it seems like the $100 premium is now simply for the brand- it isn't even designed by the guy anymore.

Better choices are probably Tasso Elba, Brooks Brothers, and Ralph Lauren.
