First Year IB Bonus on Rolex

Hey guys, I want to spend my first year bonus on a DJ41 fluted bezel jubilee bracelet. I'm an incoming summer intern and think now would be a good time to introduce myself to ADs and whatnot. Any recommendations on which ADs I would have luck with and general strategy for getting one?

Should I hint at working in IB to establish the fact that I'll buy more in the future? Also could maybe help that I'm NYC born and raised and intend on staying? Any one have any recs in NYC (AD or 47th street?). Thank you!

You're not asking for financial advice; you're asking for networking advice in the luxury space which is far outside my expertise. But I can't resist some financial advice from an old guy:

The moment will come when you're tired of working 80 hours a week and want to slow it down. That moment comes at different times, but it always comes eventually. At that point, you could either have saved millions of dollars, or you could have bought a bunch of stuff and saved a fraction of what you could have. If you're in the latter, you'll find yourself "stuck" in your lifestyle and a decade behind your peers in finding.. happiness.

The idea of asking how to programmatically establish ties with a ADs this early career for a string of future luxury purchase seems premature.

Or if your parents are rich, have fun with this and happy shopping!

Not in NY so I can't give AD recs. But I'd recommend just being yourself and not being a try hard. Have been in to my AD a few times, and you'd be surprised how many dudes in their 20s roll in trying to flex their career and how much they make, it's an angle that's over played and doesn't work well.

Lot's of Rolex (like that spec) go for more on the resale market than they do at retail, and tons of people walk in asking for them, so you need to be of the mindset that they're helping you get it a better price. It's really a relationship game, and I've been told that they know pretty quickly in the conversation if they're going to get you a watch or not.

Whatever you do, do not go to 47th street if you’re serious about the authenticity of your watches. Super hard to verify that everything is authentic, and you’re more likely than otherwise to get a Frankenstein.

Find someone you know/trust/respect who is also into Rolex, and have them introduce or recommend you into an AD that they use or would vouch for. Go in, establish a rapport, express your interest - and then go from there. Being a real, interested human who wants to get into watches because you enjoy them is the route to go here and in life - that's the flex. Go back - keep building a relationship - buy some things, it's a transactional business after all - and maybe you'll get a call one day.

My guess - if you really wanted to expedite it (barring a famous family/gobs of money) - is to go to a trusted, verified source and buy the Rolex you want. Pay a premium, get box/papers, and then go through the above. Could probably do the same w/ a Tudor or other watch that isn't crazy either - point being, you establish yourself by already having it.

The one nice thing about NYC is their fantastic service center - really nice experience. I still cannot stand they games they play with their AD network, etc. but nice to have since you are in NYC
