Need help dressing for internships and just professional life in general.

So I’m from more of a blue collar background. Whole family never worked in finance or office roles in general and I grew up in a very rural town. I’m in an MSF program since I didn’t even know what IB was in undergrad and have successfully secured an off-cycle and summer analyst internship and need advice on how to dress. Also I’m a bit older as I’m in an MSF in the US for context and need to update my wardrobe anyways from work pants and tattered shirts to business casual and business formal wear.

Any suggestions on shoes, pants, shirts, and jackets that are appropriate for an internship and everyday wear? Listing some affordable brands for a college student would help too instead of specific pieces. Thank you!

  • Versatility: Tops and skirts/pants allow for more mixing and matching.
  • Accessories: Conservative watch, non-flashy bags (e.g., Longchamp).
  • Layering: Keep a blazer and a couple of cardigans/wraps at your desk for versatility.

Budget Wardrobe

  • Suits: Express and Zara offer suits in the $100-200 range.
  • Shirts and Pants: 2 white, 2 blue shirts, and 4 pairs of pants should be sufficient.
  • Shoes: Black dress shoes with laces from brands like Aldo are affordable and look great.

By following these guidelines, you can build a professional wardrobe that is both appropriate for internships and everyday wear, while also being mindful of your budget.

Pretty straightforward, shirts get from Charles Tyrwhitt, pants go to a Macy's esque store and find discounted designer brands (can find really good deals here).

Suits same deal, if you dont want to go to a Suit-Supply or equivalent just go to Macy's and find like a $200 Calvin Klein suit in Navy and Charcoal. Really only need those 2 colors.

Shoes, go to DSW and get cheap black shoes for $60-70.
