South Florida Finance Attire

Hi all,

Recently landed an analyst opportunity Miami (PE M&A). Have seen mixed reports on what people wear down there. Coming from New York I'm more familiar with the suits/vests style - pretty corporate, pretty easy to identify who works in finance. I assume FL is a little different given the climate.

Anybody have a clear idea on what people wear in the industry (even if one office is lax and one office is more corporate, what are the general vibes down there?)

TIA

Based on the most helpful WSO content, South Florida finance attire tends to be more relaxed compared to New York, largely due to the warmer climate. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:

  1. Private Equity and Finance Professionals in Miami:

    • The general vibe leans towards business casual.
    • You might see professionals wearing golf polos, khakis, or even untucked button-down shirts, especially in less formal settings like property tours or casual meetings.
    • Full suits and ties are less common unless it's a highly formal event or meeting.
  2. Regional Variations:

    • Miami professionals are often noted for dressing well, but still adapting to the heat.
    • In contrast, other South Florida markets like West Palm or Boca Raton might have slightly different norms, but the overall trend is towards lighter, more breathable fabrics and a less rigid corporate style.
  3. Comparison to NYC:

    • While NYC finance professionals are easily identified by their corporate suits and vests, South Florida's attire reflects the climate and lifestyle—more laid-back but still polished.

If you're transitioning from NYC, consider investing in lighter fabrics and business casual staples while keeping a few formal options for specific occasions.
