What do I wear as an intern in IS?
Having trouble finding consistent info about RE dress code on here.
I'm interning w/ a national brokerage branch in a western tertiary market & need help dressing first week. I have heard that a full suit will feel out of touch w/ geographic norms, but others say it is the standard? Basically building my wardrobe from scratch, so any input helps.
Also feel like it's worth mentioning this is not a structured role I applied for, as I am younger and landed it through cold outreach, so not a traditional internship. Trying to get a feel for everyday wear & what I need for client interactions so I show up prepared.
I’d wear a button down and slacks/pants (lulu/vuori/rhone) with a coat. Nothing wrong with overdressing, you can always take off the coat if you’re uncomfortable and button down/pants is standard attire for any office (tie not necessary, that’s mostly outdated now). Last thing u want to do is show up in an untucked polo and have that first impression carry with u the entire summer.
Agree with this. Don't wear a tie, but no one is going to fault you for showing up first day with a jacket no tie. Mostly likely they are wearing button down and slacks as mentioned above with dress shoes and a jacket hanging on their door for certain meetings or tours. You could, however, be faulted for showing up undressed.
I would look at what the other guys are wearing and match that. Button down with slacks and dress shoes is always safe.
