What would you think of a very well dressed junior?
If you saw a junior wearing a tailored suit, rocking nice coats, and walking around with a leather briefcase what would your thoughts be?

Wouldn’t give a fuck
Why is this industry so weird sometimes? So many people thinking the strangest, borderline socially-awkward things
Just curious. I know the best thing is not to care about other people's thoughts.
A leather briefcase? As much as I try to not be judgmental yeah I’d think they’re a loser.
Not as much as rocking a back-pack though.
Tough call between the briefcase and a Jansport
Who cares?

Hahahaha a true classic. I think Will looked very dapper with the briefcase tbh
Respect, someone with style. Of course avoiding any obnoxious loud colours or fits.
Black oxfords, tailored navy/charcoal suit, white shirt, coat and black briefcase - that’s your uniform right there.
Subtly dressing like the D/MDs (e.g., wearing jackets most days if they do) is easy signaling as a junior. It's the same concept as mirroring in a conversation to show interest - folks subconsciously pick up on it. Just don't be over the top and you're fine... people get the "dress for the job you want" approach as the young team member.
This. I’ve actually found that the C-suite, which is directly above my current level (director in our org) dress much sportier than I did when I came on to the team. I was used to wearing suits and I liked wearing ties, but slowly I’ve lost the ties, took the jacket off more and more, and now I’ve moved to the point of dressing much more causally, especially on Summer Fridays where I usually just wear khakis and a company golf polo.
To answer your question, I think highly of someone who dresses well, especially in a corroborate appropriate setting. It’ll set you apart from the poorly dressed business casual crowd. Unless people around you are noticeably dressing much more casual, then I see no reason you can’t dress a bit more formally as long as you do it right.
Just read the room and have some discretion. You’ll be fine either way honestly.
Out of curiosity - what are you putting in the briefcase in the first place?
Porn magazines stolen from barbershop operated by old Italian guy, PBJ sandwich, pair of clean underwear, girlfriend’s tampons.
Nobody gives a shit.
Before banking I wore a suit and tie every day, never took off the jacket. My first day in banking they all nearly ripped my head off. Even dressing down I get weird comments. Banking at least in my sector is so casual it might as well be pajamas. I push it as much as I can, but in my workplace attire fosters a lot of comments.
What were you doing before banking?
Business development.
I'd respect them. As someone who likes to dress well I would appreciate it
A rare breed.
I must say, that junior has some serious style game! The tailored suit and those sharp coats show a great sense of fashion and attention to detail. And that leather briefcase? It's not just a bag; it's a statement piece. It looks like this young individual is making a strong impression and projecting a professional image. Maybe they have an important presentation or interview lined up? Or perhaps they just have a keen eye for fashion. Either way, they've definitely caught my attention with their confident and polished look!
