6 months as a credit analyst and not enjoying the job - options?
I'm a first year analyst at a credit focused fund and after about 6 months on the job I can't say I'm really enjoying myself. I don't hate the job, but I've realized I'm just not really passionate about markets and I miss working on more transactional projects (I spent two years in banking before). I think PE would probably be a better fit for me or even working in-house in a strategy / Corp dev role.
How difficult would the transition into PE be from here? Would it necessitate getting an MBA? Or would I be able to lateral from my position here? Any other advice for people that find working at HFs isn't for them?
What exactly about the type of work you're doing is unenjoyable?
If you can articulate that well, most headhunters will give you another look and send you to other firms. Your skills are still relevant for PE and whatnot, Just realize that most people will focus on your poor due diligence and reason for leaving so soon.
