MFPE Analyst Program vs MMHF Acad

reposting from PE forum to get this forum's thoughts as well:

in a weird situation rn, am cognizant that both are good offers. have a full-time seat at a SLP / Warburg / BX PE analyst program and got an offer for a P72 / CAP / BAM training program. puts and takes of each?

not sure what long term goal is tbh. curious for any and all perspectives. thanks :)

M and WP? if So, WP.

Would only consider CAP for that list if your not sure what you want to do, with lean towards MF PE. Those are great seats. If you know you want to do publics, P72 or CAP.

maybe there 10 SMs out there where you can be a good investor and keep autonomy with having a cushy job, where you need to come from IB/PE.

you will need to time it so that a few of them are actually looking to hire over your PE stint, without losing time in the public markets.

unless you want to be Ackman’s analyst or something, where if he is done with you, your career is then over.

If you did some LinkedIn research, you would be able to find multiple examples of people at both sms and mms that have come from the pe analyst path and not. Perhaps those empirical data points are more useful than theoretical advice from anons? Perhaps you would aggregate a list of 100 of those individuals in excel and trace their career history and see % splits across where they come from?

A lot of the above is bad advice. Headhunters reached out to everyone in my MF PE analyst class about Viking 3 months into the job. Its pretty common in these classes that only a small portion are interested in HF due to career volatility / perception as declining industry vs late-stage VC, crossover, search funds, startups, staying in PE, etc. If you are opportunistic with recruiting you will have the pick of the litter, may have to downgrade if you are recruiting on a tight timeline. Can easily go MM too if you want, though most choose not to.

I would only skip the MF PE program if you dont think you could handle the lifestyle for a year or two before leaving
