are quarterly models formatted like QQQQYQQQQY or QQQQQQQQ YY

At your favorite MM HFs, which of the following do analysts modeling companies have the columns in excel files formatted as?

1. Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Y Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Y

2. Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 ... YY

I do it bc it's good to have yrs's side-by-side and also I think YYYY QQQQQQQQQ better captures Q4->Q1 sequential trends.

I have a separate sheet pull key metrics into QQQQY format for printing purposes if my PM wants to look at it like that

Big4 Audit --> TMT L/S

I have a strong suspicion that EliteCaliberTalent has yet to build a model in Excel or, frankly, open the Excel app.

His MS office subscription code may still be catching dust

I have seen and worked with both. QQQQQQQQ YY is way more practical. I think only an output could be presented QQQQYQQQQY.

Also, all the monthly models i have seen  are formatted MMMMMMMMMMMM QQQQ YY, and not the other way.

Personally, I am still having a lot of difficulty to justify the QQQQYQQQQY format.

Working at a pod here but have seen both formats, I think Baird does the qqqqy etc. but it's helpful to just build it modularly so you can do either. As you're modeling, you should always have the quarters together and then for presentation you can change it however you want. I just made a new post here that may help some of you so just flagging some keys I've learned over the years and tools MM's are using to stay ahead: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/hedge-fund/key-tools-for-hf-analy…
