Canadian in NYC looking for some guidance

Hi everyone, need some advice here.

I've been down in NYC for the past 18 months working for a major Canadian Bank as a Risk Analyst for a proprietary trading desk. It was very similar to a hedge fund structure. The position was suppose to lead into a research/trading role but to make a long story short, the opportunity did not work out that way. I was let go in November - due in part to no fault of my own - complicated corp. politics. Quickly after, two HF managers who I used to work alongside with at the firm, snatched me up and I've recently completed an internship with them as an equity analyst/trader, I've been doing what I think would be similar work to a buy side analyst - evaluating financial statements, building models, relative value analysis etc.

After many interview processes and a few final rounds I've found my Visa is going to provide me with too big of a hurdle down here and I am going to attempt to transition back to Canada.

I am 26 years old, 3.5 years of experience(1.5 as a sales associate at a cdn boutique, 1.5 as a risk analyst at a cdn BB & 4 months internship as a trader/analyst at a NYC buy side HF), who hopes to complete his cfa level III in June. I graduated from a/the top Cdn. University with a solid, not spectacular GPA (3.4) and was/am involved in many extracurricular activities - i.e. helped organized multiple community service events/galas, climbed one of world's seven tallest peaks on behalf of Make-A-Wish foundation.

I am looking for a) a list of Canadian HF's and b) some general advice.

Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you haven't noticed, this forum is quite poor when it comes to getting information from experienced professionals (my last 4 questions went unanswered).
