Confusion About HF why MM?

So IB is relatively straightforward in terms of prep and where to go, it’s either BB or EBs, both of which are well known. PE is the same thing (though there are smaller PE firms), where comp trajectory is consolidated in MF/UMM. What about HF? How can you ensure you aren’t playing roulette with your career at a small SM or getting fucked over at a large MM that doesn’t give a fuck about you?

To your last point, there are no HFs hiring PE principals directly into risk-taking (i.e. PM) seats. PE is a different investment style than what you see in the public markets, especially today.
