D.E. Shaw internship application rejection weird phrasing.
Hi WSO,
I applied to D.E. Shaw's equity research analyst internship, and they replied with this:
"We have been unable to identify an ideal match between your particular background and experience and our current needs. However, we will keep your resume in our files on the chance that a suitable position should become available at a later date."
This obviously means that I have been rejected, but is it just an empty platitude or something more? The way they replied seems kinda weird if it were the former, but I don't wanna take it too optimistically since it could just be PR/niceness.
What is ambiguous about it?
I've obviously been rejected, but the implication is that they may automatically consider me in the future should a place open up. I was wondering if this is just a neutral platitude(not really genuine) or a "Nice, but we can't consider you now"(actually serious).
It might be genuine at a select few firms, but that language has become standard to make the rejection sting less. Keep applying elsewhere.
Thank you for letting me know! Feel's good to not get my hopes up. I'm definitely going to keep applying anyways.
I was supposed to interview with them for the prop trader position but after I've read up glass door and it scared me away. I knew I wasn't going to pass the first round, shame...
