Engineering to Banking?
Hi everyone, im new to this forum! So, im studying Mechanical Engineering and i found out that engineering is not for me. Im in the third year atm. My main question is:
Can an engineering graduate work for an investment bank or a hedge fund? Should i do an MBA or it wont help either?
Thank you in advance!
P.S. Im from EU, ignore any mistakes, english is not my mother language...
Finance professionals love engineers. Engineering is incredibly rigorous, math-based, and requires critical analytical capabilities.
My Advice: Work on crafting a story as to why you want to do banking, reaching out to people within the industry, and learning as much as you possibly can. There are quite a few people who make the transition. I work at a small fund where both Managing Partners were involved in M&A and/or investment banking before starting the fund. Guess what? They both came from engineering backgrounds. Look into M&A consulting as well, hope this helps.
