From ECM IB to HF

For those who have been able to move from ECM to a HF, how did you go about it? And when did you start making those moves, networking, reaching out to recruiters, etc..

Currently in ECM at a top MM and looking to hopefully move to a HF in a year or 2. Just want an idea of what needs to be done as I won’t have the modeling experience someone in a coverage team will have and when I should start looking around. (I should make analyst 2 this summer, if that matters).
