FT IB or ER for HF exit
Current SA at top MM (Jef/Piper/Roths USA), realized I dont see myself in banking long term and rather am really interested in the public equities space
So, I was curious to ask - for people now at SM or MM funds, how did you get your start?
and do you think it'd be better to FT lateral into equity research or stick to 2 years banking, 2 years PE before moving to HF?
Why would you do 2 years of PE if you’re happy yo end up at an MM…?
We hire a lot from ER and IB, I’d suggest IB first in case you want to do something else
honestly just kept hearing that 2+2 was a requirement, is it just tiger cub propaganda?
Every large MM is hiring kids out of school
The same can be said for some SMs
Maybe a handful of legacy SMs want PE candidates, but they are not the top spots today
i am currently a first year analyst being contacted by HH on an opportunity at Citadel in London. Not knowing the specifics yet. But just wondering is it a good spot, and are there any concerns on career tenure (being pushed out in two years) as a junior?
Churn risk is high at any multi-manager hedge fund
Citadel is obviously a good shop, but your survival and success depends on which pod/PM you’re joining, as you will be learning their process
Thanks! Is there any indicator I can look for when DD the Pm? Tenure? PnL? Smaller team better? Can these questions be asked to HH during conversation
Tenure is your best bet (tenure at current shop). How they approach mentoring, if they’ve ever lost money etc etc
