Good Headhunters?

Hello all,

Just wanted to see if anyone knows/worked with any headhunter/recruiting group that actually (keyword) cares about placing you at the right fund for you vs. just placing you + making the commission? For experienced analyst.

I know its a long-shot + a bit hypocritical due to our mercenary-like tendencies, but was wondering if anyone could provide some insight here.

TIA all.

Hey there!

Finding a headhunter who aligns with your career aspirations and genuinely cares about placing you in the right fund can indeed feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. But fear not, based on the most helpful WSO content, here are a few insights that might help you in your quest:

  1. Personal Referrals: The best headhunters often come recommended. If you have a network in the industry, ask your peers or mentors for referrals to recruiters they've had positive experiences with.

  2. Specialization: Look for headhunters who specialize in the fund space. They're more likely to understand the nuances of the industry and, consequently, care about fit.

  3. Reputation: Do some digging on the reputation of the headhunter or firm. The WSO forums are a good place to start, as you can find threads discussing various recruiting firms and personal experiences with them.

  4. Initial Interactions: Gauge their interest in your career during your initial conversations. A good headhunter will ask detailed questions about your experience, goals, and the type of fund you're looking to join.

  5. Long-term Relationship: Seek out headhunters interested in building a long-term relationship. They're more likely to care about your satisfaction in a role, as it reflects on their ability to match candidates and firms successfully.

Remember, while headhunters are incentivized by commissions, the best ones know that a successful, long-term placement is far more valuable than a quick fix. Keep your bananas peeled for those who show a genuine interest in your career trajectory – they're the ones who will go the extra mile to find the right fit for you.

Good luck on your search!
