Hedge Fund Stock Pitch Applciation tips

Hi, I am currently writing a 2-page report on a regional bank for a hedge fund internship application and was wondering what is the best software to use. I would normally just use MS word but given I have like 8 pages of rough info I need to condense and still am not done researching (intend to finish over the next 3 days), I would think something like Canva would be good as I have much more control over text boxes and margins, along with making it look more digestible?

Also I was wondering what general tips to keep in mind? I already emailed and they said to do just your most interesting pitch, I feel like mine is pretty differentiated and I actually got access to some sellside research along with talking to an employee as two unique points to show my deep research (they are Long only SMHF with 20-30 stock portfolio) along with my valuation and NII modeling considering a lot of scenarios for rates and their history..

Keep it simple. If it’s all text use word if there are graphs use PowerPoint. No canva.

Get to the point, no fluff. Follow this basic format:

- what does the market think
- what specifically are they wrong about
- how does that impact the valuation

It isn’t English class no need for fluff. If it doesn’t directly impact the valuation it doesn’t make it into the report. Each word should matter.

Thanks.

I’ll definitely be using word then, this is kind of a stupid question, but how far can I stretch the format? Like they give no guidelines so can I do 10pt Times New Roman single-spaced with very little margin? I know of course often the greatest ideas can be ones pitched this short in length but I feel like my idea is a bunch of granular details that when all put together/taken in create a great business model so I am just worried about not capturing it all.

As others mentioned: use word. Ppt if lots of graphics. Being able to distill very complex information into a brief paragraph is the market of a strong analyst. If you're struggling to break it down further, you may need to understand the company more. Note: sometimes you just need to let the info digest in your mind ("soak and poke"). I recommend trying to explain it to friends with different backgrounds for practice.

I am very comfortable with the company, I think it’s more just deciding what I need cuz I have 15 pages of well formatted and categorized information I just need to distill. Its a regional bank and for example, I include some very granular micro stuff on county-level deposit shifts over the last decade and how it reflects the bank’s strategy turnaround (used FDIC and some other alternative data) and its like half a page, but it really should be like a 4 sentence paragraph instead.
