HF Offer - Call Etiquette with HR

Hi there,

Potential mid-level job offer, to be recruited from current BB role.

Question is call etiquette with HR when the offer comes in. Wisdom says ask for some time to consider before giving a response, regardless of the offer. Say you take a day and decide to counter, whats the best way to do this? Call back or email, or should you request them to send the initial offer in writing/email first? Is it also custom to discuss any payment split around cash vs stock or is this something not negotiable in an offer?

Thank you in advance

Absolutely never ever say "yes" on the spot. Ask them to send the written contract and you will review with your attorney (which you probably should) and get back to them. Buys you time and it's what any mid-level and above is expected to respond. Only insecure 21-year olds say yes on the spot.

Thank you v helpful - what if you are in a position to negotiate / you want to go back with a counter offer?

does it make sense to put them through process of sending written documents, say over the course of a few days, only to go back with a counter then? or would you do that over the phone the next day, and then get them to send written contract with the higher number on there (if they agreed)?
