HF to IB, back to HF?

So I'm a freshman at a semi-target. Copped a HF internship at boutique (1bb AUM) this summer, piked a lot of interest from a VP at a 15-25bb fund for next summer (first is long/short, second is long value only).

I'm very interesting in having my career in hedge funds, possibly starting my own one day or reaching the PM level. However, should I (and if so, how) fit IB into my experience down the line? The plan is (anything with a question mark is up for consideration):

Year 1: Freshman Summer: HF Internship (boutique)
Year 2: Sophomore Summer: HF Internship (mid market)
Year 3: Sophomore Summer: Go back to same HF as above
Year 4: Junior Summer: IB???
Year 5: Senior Summer: IB???
Post-Grad: BB HF or BB IB?
Few Years after Grad: BB HF

Should I try and do IB in my Junior and Senior years? Obviously, pro's to IB are the network. Your peers will end up all over the place, and that could come in VERY helpful down the line as they climb their corporate ladders - tho I'm not sure what kind of benefit there is in that from a IB summer internship, and not a full time thing post grad.

I am aiming to be at a BB HF a few years after grad for sure, but immediately after grad (and the 2 summers before), should I aim for a BB IB like Goldman, JP (have hf/am arm), etc? Or stick to the BB HF plan (better hours, better work, better pay, better lifestyle, perhaps a less diverse network).

Edit: About "BB HF", I mean something like JPM's HF/AM arm, or Blackstone, Point72, etc

I think you may be getting your definitions confused. Yes, some BBs have AM divisions like JPAM and GSAM, but what are you referring to when referencing BX? BX BAAM (fund-of-funds)? GSO (which includes public credit)?

There's just no such thing as a "BB HF", as bulge bracket is only meant to refer to investment banks that often appear first on a tombstone. It's not really applicable as a term for "large" or "well-known" for anything outside of IB.

pretty bad content my man.  Why do you have 2 sophomore summers? Senior summer? Also, no such thing as HF BB - only "buyside" which I think is what you mean.

As someone who did a BB internship and now will be interning at a buyside institution, I think that there's nothing wrong with going straight to it if you know that's what you want to do.  But you gotta be really good... judging by this post you can probably could sharpen up your knowledge on the space before making the decision now...

my brother wrote this post about 4 years ago when he was a freshman lol.

not sure why people randomly started commenting on this, but if curious, yes he ended up travelling during sophomore (so 5 years total in undergrad). ended up at tier 2 boutique for full time and lost interest in hf side (going for pe instead).
